Lamu Senator surrenders to police after gun shooting drama

Lamu Senator Anuwar Loitiptip has surrendered to the police after he allegedly shot a woman in Nanyuki.

According to police, Mr Loitiptip has been in hiding since Saturday after the scuffle that left a woman known as Joy Makena, 32 with serious gunshot wounds on her right leg.

However, Loitiptip says he shot in the air after he was attacked by a gang of people.

Loitiptip says he also sustained serious injuries and sought urgent treatment at a nearby Nanyuki hospital.

He added that he has not been hiding but instead he was receiving medical attention after he sustained serious injuries on his left arm.

Police rushed to the scene and found two used cartridges, a firearm and 9 rounds of ammunition.

The Senator will spend the night in police custody before he is arraigned in court on Monday.

The lady who was injured in the scuffle is still nursing serious gunshot wounds at a Nanyuki hospital.

Makena says they were entangled in a scuffle with Loitiptip before the Senator shot her on the right leg and left.

The Lamu Senator will face charges among them misuse of his firearm.
