Lamu Woman rep. calls for militarisation of county gov’t

In what seems to have sparked heated debate among Lamu people, the county Woman representative Ruweida Obbo has called for militarisation of Lamu county government.

Ms Obbo says the county government has terribly failed in enhancing development and uplifting the living standards of residents.

Ms Obbo who was on Saturday entangled in a bitter exchange with Lamu governor Fahim Twaha during the burial of a renowned religious leader Bishop Zabedi Maina Wamaitha scoffed at the governor for failing to facelift the health sector.

According to the Woman representative, the county is economically dwindling, saying the governor has simply failed.

“What happened in Nairobi where Major Mohammed Badi took over under the Nairobi Metropolitan Service should exactly happen in Lamu,” noted the Woman representative.

Ms Obbo said the Lamu health sector is itself ailing.

“We don’t have even a single Intensive Care Unit in the county forcing us to rush our patients in critical condition to Mombasa what a shame,” said Obbo.

She appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta to initiate such process and militarise Lamu county government.

However Lamu county Governor Fahim Twaha has strongly accused Ms Obbo saying her wish will never be fulfilled.

According to Twaha the county government is working towards uplifting the health sector.

Twaha said the county has set a total of 76 million shillings to equip the health sector.

He said his government has already recruited a total of 92 health workers to deployed in various public hospitals so as to provide quality health services to Lamu residents.

“You are wrongly accusing me since I was elected by Lamu residents,” said an embittered Twaha.

Lamu county government has been on the receiving end with locals and activists blaming it for laxity.
