Mvita legislature Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir has urged a section of Mombasa leaders to desist from politicising the Mombasa economy issue.
Nassir criticised the politicians who have been misleading the public on the Coast economy.
“Some of these members maliciously accusing us did not participate in the earlier struggle to secure Mombasa economy,” said Mr. Nassir.
He however said the struggle is still on and urged locals to remain united in the noble course.
“We are working together to solve this issue our people are suffering and we fully understand that,” he said.
His defence comes after Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali accused some of the Coast leaders for not joining hands in petitioning the 100 percent SGR cargo haulage.
According to Ali, the leader’s behaviour suggests that some have hugely benefited from the deal, sentiments that Nassir strongly disputes.
Meanwhile, ‘Maendeleo ya Wanawake’ Mombasa County branch has criticised local leaders for ignoring the plights of locals over the SGR order.
Led by the organisations Chairperson Afiya Rama, they vowed to send home all the leaders who will not support efforts to remove transport cabinet secretary James Macharia from office.
Meanwhile Mombasa youth activists want leaders including Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho to come out and rescue Mombasa economy.
They said the government order to transport all cargo at the port of Mombasa through SGR is oppressive.
The youth drawn from all counties tasked their Members of Parliament to use all the possible avenues to stop the order.
