Man escapes from police custody

Drama ensued at the Mombasa law courts after a man escaped from police custody.

The 34 year old Ngalaa Chuphi Hassan had been earlier arrested and charged for being involved in criminal activities within Likoni area in Mombasa county.

However, the suspect after being released on bond he on several occasions failed to turn up for court sessions and police arrested and presented him in court where his bond was cancelled.

On Monday, after the court ordered police to take him back to custody he pleaded with the police to allow him visit the toilet outside the Mombasa law courts.

“After releaving himself he later came out and pushed the police officer manning the toilet, he jumped off a perimeter wall and vanished at a nearby forest,” said an officer from the Likoni Sub county DCI department Michael Mbuvi.

Police used sniffer dogs and other various tools but failed to locate the escapee who has pending court case.

Mbuvi further revealed that the search is still on as Ngalaa has been involved in a series of crime within Likoni area and its outskirts.
