Meru Senator Mithika Linturi was on Sunday morning nabbed by DCI detectives attached to the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).

He was taken to Nakuru to record statement over his recent utterances during Deputy President William Ruto’s Eldoret rally on Saturday in Uasin Gishu county.

According to detectives, Linturi’s remarks are a threat to the country’s security and coexistence.

On Saturday, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji ordered a thorough investigation into the Senator’s remarks.

Linturi was quoted urging locals to remove those not supporting UDA political party whom he referred to as ‘Madoadoa’, remarks that were deemed an incitement.

However, Linturi has defended himself saying he did not incite anyone but he only urged locals to fully back UDA’s agenda so that the party prospers politically.

Linturi, had earlier apologised to the public over his utterances.

“I am apologising for the remarks, however, my sentiments have been blown out of proportion since I only urged locals to support UDA and not any other political party,” He said.

Uasin Gishu County commander Ayub Gitonga confirmed the early Sunday morning arrest.

He said Linturi was arrested at Rupa Hotel located in Eldoret town.

The Meru Senator is likely to be detained and arraigned in court on Monday morning.

Meanwhile, NCIC has appealed to politicians to cease hatred remarks that are likely to tore the country especially during this electioneering period.

The cohesion body has further called on Kenyans to avoid politicians who have no development agenda in their political campaigns but instead aim at destroying the peaceful coexistence among Kenyans.
