Mikindani residents, Jomvu constituency, Mombasa County have threatened to demolish a three storey building that was two years ago earmarked for demolition.

The locals led by community leader Ms Sally Oguda said the building under construction is very weak and poses a great danger to the Cambodia residents in Mikindani kwa Mwanzia area.

Ms Oguda said the building has turned out to be a brothel where youth and other people engage in sexual activities in broad day light.

“This building apart from serving as a brothel it has become a criminal den where thieves hide and mug people in broad daylight, we want it demolished,” she said.

She revealed that some girls reported to have been raped at the same building and despite various reports to the Mombasa county housing and infrastructure department, nothing has been done.

“It is the same building that was stopped by Mombasa county housing and infrastructure department about two years ago but the same county has never pulled it down,” noted Ms Oguda.

The now notorious hideout for criminals, drug traffickers and users poses a serious danger to locals.

On his part a resident Gabriel Juma appealed to the county government to immediately bring down the building.

He said the weak structure may cause disaster since it is within residential area.

“It has blocked sewer lines causing floods whenever it rains,” said Mr. Juma.
