Police in Changamwe, Mombasa county are detaining a man who allegedly slashed his wife with a panga to death.
According to Changamwe police Boss David Mathiu, the suspect who is currently held at the Changamwe police station was entangled in a quarrel with his wife on Friday night.
Neighbours said they heard the noise between the two but later there was an abrupt total silence.
“The neighbours agreed to go to the house so as to try and solve the situation, however on reaching the house the husband had already vanished leaving his wife dead,” Said Mathiu.
According to Mathiu, the wife had sustained deep cuts on the head and on the arms.
“We also found a three month old baby in a pool of blood beside the body, luckily the baby was alive,” Noted Mathiu.
The Changamwe police Boss said the man after he conducted such a heinous act, went into a hideout but police nabbed him early Saturday morning.
The infant has been handed to nurses at the Coast General Teaching and Referral hospital for medical examination after which it will be given to close relative.
The body of the deceased has been taken to the hospital’s morgue.
