A Mombasa truck driver has died on the spot after a loaded container slid into the driver’s cabin.

Eye witness accounts said the truck driver was struggling to find a parking spot to offload the container loaded with bales of second hand when the freak accident occurred at about 5 pm on Wednesday evening.

The 40 feet container slid from its platform and crashed into the driver’s cabin as the ill-fated driver severally negotiated corners before hitting potholes that triggered the accident.

According to Riaz Ahmed, an eyewitness said the turn boy was lucky as he disembarked early to help the driver find space for parking.

The incident caused a huge traffic jam in the Shimanzi industrial area of the Coastal city.

Police had a hard time trying to clear the traffic and the curious onlookers who thronged the accident scene at the junction of Mijikenda Street.

Police identified the driver as Boniface Musyoka, 32 and removed the body from the scene of the accident to the Coast general Teaching and Referral hospital morgue.
