Parents should closely monitor their children during the holiday season.
Anti-drug activist Taib Abdulrahman urged parents to spend more time with their children rather than spending more money shopping for them.
Speaking at a forum in Majengo, Mombasa, he said most children end up abusing drugs during holiday season, a reason why they should be closely monitored.
He urged parents to engage their children on various social activities to deter them from indulging in societal evils.
“It is this time that some of our children engage in everything and end up in regrets, parents should be very keen in ensuring safety of their children,” he said.
He noted that under the Mvita Community Development Organisation, he is conducting youth forums within Mvita constituency to engage the youth in communal activities to deter them from drugs and crime.
“Most of youth engage in drugs and crime not necessarily because they are unemployed but because they lack guidance and mentorship,” he noted.
He appealed to parents to always create time with their children and openly discuss challenges during the youthful age among them impact of irresponsible sexual behaviors, drugs and crime.
