The government has imposed 15 day restriction of movement to Old town residents in Mombasa.

This follows a series of indiscipline among residents in the area.

The government warned that no one will be allowed into the area while those who are within Old town will not be allowed to exit.

Mombasa County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo warned of dire consequences for anyone who ignores the order.

Kitiyo said all those with their offices or working in Old town will not be allowed to work in the area until the 15 day session is over.

“We have deployed our security agencies in the area to ensure no entrance and no exit in Old town,” retreated Mr. Kitiyo.

Essential services

He said, essential services however will continue.

“This is not a punishment to locals but ways to tame the spread of the deadly virus,” he said.

Old town area has been on the limelight after locals rejected mass testing.

They said they have never seen a Coronavirus patient in the area, claims that the government rubbished.

Various videos have resurfaced on the social media showing locals denouncing government’s move in fighting the spread of Coronavirus in the area.

Health workers have also been threatened by old town youth.
