One die, MCA narrowly escapes death in a road accident

One person died on Tuesday, while another one narrowly escaped death after their car hit a giraffe along the Taita Taveta road.

The deceased, a woman was traveling together with Mata Ward Representative in the Taita Taveta Assembly Khamadi Chanzu when their vehicle hit a giraffe at Salaita area in Mwatate.

The vehicle according to police rolled several times killing the female passenger on the spot while the Member of Taita Taveta County Assembly survived and he was rushed to the Moi referral hospital in Voi for urgent medical attention.

However, according to doctors, Chanzu was later transferred to the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital in Mombasa for further medical examination.

The giraffe also died on the spot along the Tsavo West bypass.

The giraffe was crossing the road that tears between the Tsavo West National Park, the largest animal park in Taita Taveta county.

Police say despite cautioning motorists against driving at high speed following smoothness of the road, most drivers have ignored the traffic department’s plea, driving their vehicles recklessly on the roads.

The body of the deceased has been taken to Moi referral hospital in Voi.

The wreckage has been towed to Voi police station, as police investigation continues.
