Mombasa County assembly has suspended its sittings with immediate effect after four of its members tested positive for Covid-19.
The Members of the county assembly went through a covid-19 testing exercise barely a week ago after one of them showed symptoms of the disease.
Other three county staffs also tested positive for the virus and are receiving urgent treatment.
The news sent most of the county government staff into panic mode.
County assembly Deputy Speaker Fadhili Mwalimu said the closure of the assembly and suspension of the sittings will pave way for thorough fumigation of all the county assembly buildings before normal deliberations resumes.
“The county Assembly speaker Aharub Khatri will issue a comprehensive statement later on,” said Mr. Mwalimu.
Mombasa County has been experiencing a surge in coronavirus positive cases with Tononoka boys and Star of the Sea primary and secondary schools closed following covid-19 threats.
Recently, the Mombasa county Covid-19 response committee revealed that the county hospitals are full to capacity and cannot admit more covid-19 patients.
This comes even after Tononoka Boys secondary school Principal Mohammed Khamis on Monday succumbed to covid-19.
He was buried at the Kikowani Muslim cemetery within Mombasa Island.
