Coastal parents have been criticised for their failure in upbringing of their children.
Haki Africa Deputy Executive Director Salma Hemed said the poor behaviors among many children in the region squarely lie with their parents.
She said most parents have created a gap between themselves and their children a situation that has led to school dropouts, drug use and early pregnancies among young children.
According to Ms Hemed, parents must take their responsibilities seriously and give their children the required upbringing and guidance.
“Nowadays children will make the big attendance in night celebrations and weddings, one wonders where are their parents?” posed Ms Hemed.
She blamed parents for such reckless behaviors among their children, urging parents to closely monitor the minors.
“We are bound to lose a whole youthful generation to drugs, crime and other societal evils if we don’t curtail the situation now,” Added the gender activist.
She has appealed to youth in the region to take control of their lives and build a strong base for their future.
She said it is only through responsible living that the youth will sustain themselves in future and positively impact the region and the community as well.
