Several passengers have been injured after a matatu they were travelling in veered off the road, hitting an electricity poll and rolled several times.

The accident happened at Spaki area near Makupa causeway within Mombasa Island mid-morning Wednesday.

Police confirmed that the Magongo-Likoni ferry bound matatu developed a fault and the vehicle’s shaft dropped forcing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

The matatu hit an electricity poll and crossed the other side of the road, hitting a Tudor-Ferry bound matatu that was heading to Tudor from Likoni before rolling several times.

No deaths were reported during the accident but both the driver and his conductor sustained serious injuries.
