Persons with disabilities within Mvita Constituency in Mombasa have entered into an agreement with Mvita Constituency Parliamentary aspirant Said Mohammed Twaha, urging him to alleviate them from suffering.
The physically challenged said they have encountered heartbreaking and traumatizing challenges in life, and being unable to solve them.
Speaking at a forum at the Mombasa Women social hall in Mombasa, that was also attended by Mr Twaha, they said despite having various capabilities to make ends meet, they have been totally sidelined by the current Mombasa county government.
“We have become beggars despite the fact that most of us are well educated and qualified for various jobs both in the public and private sector,” revealed Physically Disabled Self Help Group Chairperson Francis Opondo.
Opondo, challenged Twaha to closely work with the physically challenged so that they attain their economic goals.
His sentiments were backed by another human rights defender, Josphat Mwaura who is an albinism.
Mwaura disclosed that together with Twaha they have developed a well-documented development strategy that consists of in-depth highlights on the very critical aspects aimed at improving the welfare and living standards of people with disabilities in Mvita Constituency.
Mwaura from the Albinism Society of Kenya (ASK) says people with disabilities have been depicted as less human which should not be the case in a country with an all-inclusive constitution.
“We are already working with Twaha on how best we can incorporate the physically challenged within the society, they heavily contribute to the growth of any community,” disclosed Mr Mwaura.
He lauded Twaha as the only Mvita aspirant who has foregrounded the welfare of persons with disability in all his political strategies.
“We are conducting these continuous forums with Twaha so that he clearly understands the obstacles physically challenges encounter in their daily lives and how they can be aided to successfully lives,” he said.
While addressing the various groups fighting for the rights of people with disabilities from Mvita Constituency, Twaha reiterated that people with disabilities remains his top priority when he sails into leadership.
Twaha who is vying for the position on a Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) party ticket vowed to work with them in achieving his development agenda for the entire Mvita constituency.
“I said this before and I will reiterate that the physically challenged are us and we cannot discriminate them, they equally contribute to community development and they should be full included in all our plans,” said Mr Twaha.

The youthful leader who has in the recent past grabbed the attention of Mvita residents, noted that he is already working with the physically challenged in his secretariat so that he equally deliberates with them their needs and chat various ways of solving their myriad challenges.
I earlier stated that we will gather the exact data of the physically challenged, our set goal which is already on course, aims at empowering them economically, in education aspects and generally face-lifting their social well-being in the society,” he reiterated.
