In a bizarre incident reported by human rights defenders in Mombasa, a physically challenged young man has been killed by mob in Mombasa.

In a devastating narration from the mother in desperation Mwaka Abdallah, her son Abdallah Thalahati, 24 and who has been attending Kwale Special School in Kwale county was on his holidays at their home in Kisauni Mombasa county.

He however vanished on the April, 17, 2022.

Thalahati could not trace back their home and spent the night outside a shop in Kijiweni area, Junda within Kisauni Sub County.

“The shop was broken into the same night and valuables stolen, but my son was asleep outside the shop when the thieves made away with the valuables,” Mwaka narrated with tears rolling down her check in pain.

Early the next morning, the shop owner finding his shop broken into he counted on Thalahati who was still in his deep sleep as the prime suspect attracting locals who descended on the young physically challenged boy, senselessly beating and killing him instantly.

Shocking revelations

“As if killing my son was not enough, they burnt him,” revealed the mother.

According to Mwaka, the disability on his son was evident since it was both physically and mentally.

“Despite all these happenings, I spent four days searching for my son in all the police cells in Kisauni Sub County, the entire Junda area, Maweni in Nyali constituency among other areas including making public announcement on local radio station in Mombasa,” She narrated.

Mwaka found her son’s lifeless body lying at the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue where he was taken on April, 17.

“I only identified my son by looking on his legs he was disabled and anyone could see it, he sustained serious massive burns. But I have nothing to do only thanking God for the life I have lived with my son,” noted a vividly pained Mwaka.

While visiting the family in Kisauni on Tuesday, Haki Africa Rapid Response Officer (RRO) Alexander Mbela condemned the incident saying it was evident that the young boy was innocent.

Mbela said the human rights lobby is working with security agencies to tame all those involved in the killing of the innocent young man.

“With all senses working well, how can an individual steal from a shop and sleep right at the corridor, how? This particular incident should be pursued to the end,” noted Mr Mbela.

He disclosed that what transpired was total gross human rights violation and police should not lag in netting all the suspects.

“Let the public stop taking law into the own hands, this single incident is very devastating an we will stop at nothing less than justice to the family,” reiterated Mbela.

Meanwhile, the school management at Kwale Special School in Kwale county is as well pursuing the matter.

The school says Thalahati was a dedicated young man who was doing well in Agricultural activities including livestock keeping as part of his learning.
