Machete-wielding criminal gang members are still on the prowl in Mombasa and its environs staging serious assaults on people in the Coastal city giving a tough task to the police.
Groups of vicious and seemingly intoxicated youth are roaming various suburbs meting out harassment on business people, visitors and residents to the chagrin of the security agencies.
Last week over 10 people sustained serious wounds in shocking stabbing sprees in parts of the sprawling Kisauni suburb blamed on the apparently intoxicated youth.
Deal with gangs
Consequently the Mombasa County Deputy Governor Dr. William Kingi called on the police to dismantle the notorious criminal gangs on the loose.
Dr. Kingi urged police to be merciless when dealing with hardcore criminals out to disrupt peace and development in the tourist resort city.
The county government waived the medical bill of all those who were injured in the gang attacks.
11 people were seriously injured last week after they were attacked by a machete-wielding gang in Kisauni Sub County.
Kingi warned the spike in violent crime witnessed in the recent past could spell doom for the fragile tourism industry at the Coast as holidaymakers value their safety and security.
