The Deputy President William Ruto has hit back at his Boss President Uhuru Kenyatta over remarks that Ruto is not fit to hold the presidency.
Ruto says he respects President Kenyatta’s decision to support ODM leader Raila Odinga in his bid for presidency.
According to Ruto, he is the one who campaigned and voted for Uhuru twice back in 2013 and in 2017 and Raila never voted for him.
“I campaigned and voted for my friend President Uhuru Kenyatta twice and Raila never support or voted for Uhuru, but I fully respect his decision,” said the DP during his political tour in Kitui County on Thursday.
Ruto continued “However, Raila should know that I am not competing with President Uhuru Kenyatta but it’s him we are squaring it out so he should stop clinging onto the president’s back,” noted DP Ruto.
He reiterated that he fears none among his opponents in the presidential bid and will battle it out with whoever will show interest for the presidency in the August, 9, 2022 general polls.
Ruto was selling his Bottom Up Development Economic Model and the Kenya Kwanza objectives in Kitui County.
On Wednesday, during the Sagana 3 meeting at the Sagana state lodge in Nyeri County, president Kenyatta hit hard and openly declared his support for Raila Odinga as his preferred successor.
“My Deputy is unfit to lead this nation, I urge you to support this man (Raila Odinga) and when my Deputy reforms, I will support him in the future,” President Kenyatta said.
His remarks ellicited sharp criticism from the public with many Kenyans saying the president is being inconsequential.
However, Ruto supporters have ignored Uhuru’s remarks saying only Kenyans will decide on who will be their 5th president come August, 9 general polls.
