Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho has submitted his name for considerations to the seven-member panel mandated to interview and advise suitable candidate to deputise Raila Odinga.

The Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya alliance nominated a seven-member team to vet several candidates and come up with the suitable one to fit Raila’s running mate position.

The Mombasa Governor submitted his name after a push from Coast leaders that Joho is fit to deputise Raila having been the Deputy party leader for the Orange Democratic Movement-ODM.

During the Eid Baraza celebrations in Mombasa on Tuesday, this week ODM leaders led by Likoni Member of Parliament Mishi Mboko expressed hopes that Raila will pick Joho as his running mate in the August, 9th General elections.

“We do not see any obstacle that will bar our very own Ali Hassan Joho to become Raila’s running mate, let’s pray for him, he is above regional politics,” Mboko said.

While responding to the push, Joho said he is fit for any top leadership position including that of the presidency.

“In service to my beloved country, I hereby submit my name for consideration for the position of running mate of Rt. Hon Raila Odinga the presidential candidate of Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition during the upcoming general elections,” Joho wrote to the panel.

Other candidates who have submitted their names are Murang’a Woman representative Sabina Chege and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth.

The two were fronted by Jubilee party.

However, Wiper Leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka says he is way above the panel and will not honour the interview.

Kalonzo says he is the right candidate to deputise Raila.

In a twist of events, KANU Party leader Gideon Moi fronted Kalonzo as the suitable candidate for Raila’s running mate.

However, his party nominated him to deputise Raila.

The panel is to submit the suitable name for Raila’s running mate on May, 10, 2022.
