Lamu youth activist Yunus Is’hakia to battle for Hindi Ward MCA

Vocal youth and human rights defender Yunus Is’hakia Ahmed is set to fight for the Hindi Ward Representative seat in August, 9 during the general election.

Is’hakia said he has traversed Hindi Ward and interacted with the local communities around and that he clearly understands their predicaments.

He says together with the local communities they are deliberating on how they can overcome the challenges.

Mr Is’hakia says Hindi Ward needs a youthful representative and he stands out as one of the dedicated youthful activists who have fought for the welfare of Hindi Ward residents.

Is’hakia has been singled out as one of the vibrant youthful activists with a strong human touch by the virtue of being a vocal, dedicated and fearless human rights defender.

During his service at both human rights lobby Haki Africa and the Lamu Justice Network, Is’hakia dedicated himself in ensuring Lamu residents access to justice.

Among the issues that the activis has foregrounded in the county are battling for justice for sexually assaulted minors, justice for Gender Based Violence (GBV) victims.

“I focus more on the chronic land issues within Hindi Ward and demarcation is the solution so that locals can get title deeds and live peacefully,” he said.

The human rights defender cum politician says at least 50% of all job opportunities in Lamu county should directly benefit the locals.

“We now have the LAPSSET project, there should be no discrimination at all against Lamu residents and more specifically the youth,” he reiterated.

Justice for all, employment among the youth and a solution to the chronic land issues in Lamu and specifically in Hindi Ward are some of the priorities filling the aspirant’s plate.

Is’hakia battled for the Hindi Ward MCA seat in 2017 and became second with only 214 votes gap, a discripacy he is looking forward to fill.

The youthful Lamu based activist is well known for his track record in advocacy on human rights, community engagement and initiatives and being a social work.
