Mombasa Gubernatorial aspirant Ali Mbogo says he is the one to fly Wiper Democratic Movement flag in the forthcoming Mombasa gubernatorial race.
Mbogo says he was handed over the nomination certificate in a recent Wiper National Delegates Conference in Nairobi where over 700 aspirants allied to the party received their certificates.
Addressing journalists in his Kisauni Constituency on Saturday, the Lawmaker noted that there have been rumours doing rounds that there will be Wiper party nominations in Mombasa for the gubernatorial race, so that they accommodate former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko for the Mombasa governorship race.
“I want to make it clear today that I am the one who was handed the nomination certificate by our Party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi, in the presence of Sonko,” noted Mbogo.
He said he has been conducting his campaigns on the ground within Mombasa county urging his supporters not to worry about the rumours.
“There will be no Wiper nominations in Mombasa, please treat whatever is being said about Wiper gubernatorial certificate in Mombasa as rumours as I have the nomination certificate and I am on the road campaigning,” revealed the Kisauni MP as he displayed the nomination certificate to the public.
Mbogo urged his supporters to unite and work with him in his Mombasa county gubernatorial bid.
“With only 114 days to the General election, we have no time to waste but traverse the entire Mombasa county so that we hunt for votes. This debate of who has the Wiper’s nomination certificate is unworthy at this moment. Let’s not lose focus,” he noted.
Recently there have been reports doing rounds that former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has shown interest in the Mombasa gubernatorial seat.
The reports indicated that indeed the Wiper Democratic Movement Party submitted Sonko’s name to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC clearly indicating that Sonko will battle it out with Mbogo in the Wiper party primaries for the Mombasa top seat.
According to the Wiper National Election Board Vice Chair Agatha Solitei, Sonko has the right to be issued with the certificate after the nominations, however, Mbogo has disputed the sentiments saying he is not informed.
Meanwhile, Mbogo has denied claims that he was moving to the Pamoja Africa Alliance Party (PAA) saying he is in Wiper to stay.
He also reiterated that he is going to work with all the communities, tribes and various organisations so that they chat the way forward on improving everyones’ welfare within Mombasa county.
His supporters including aspirants for various leadership positions in Mombasa have strongly opposed the entrance of Sonko into Mombasa politics.
Mbogo is expected to battle it out with Mvita MP Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir, the current Mombasa Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi, Hezron Awiti Bolo among others in the race to inherit the incumbent Ali Hassan Joho who is winding up his second term as Mombasa Governor.
