Mombasa Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi has promised Mombasa women equal opportunities when he sails to the top seat come August, 9 during the general elections.

On Thursday, Kingi failed to make public his running mate though he said he has identified one who will enable him clinch the Mombasa governor seat.

While addressing a women forum in Mombasa mostly his supporters at grassroots level, the Mombasa County Deputy Governor promised more cabinet positions for women in the county government.

He said women are critical in the development of any county government and the entire country as well.

“I have never seen a county or a country develop economically without fully involvement of women, and I will lead by example,” he noted.

He urged Mombasa women and the entire community to support his gubernatorial bid come August, 9 during the general elections.

Kingi further noted that he will create conducive environment for women and youth to venture into business.

He said the two groups need conducive environment and guidance for them to prosper in the economic activities.

“These aspects include affordable licenses and proper secured environment will enhance the growth of small business within Mombasa county,” noted Kingi.

He further said he will revive the small business sector so that the target groups being women and youth expand their economic activities.

He has appealed to Mombasa residents to back him up as he seeks to take over the mantle from the current Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho.

During the event, Kingi’s wife Kache Kingi drummed support for her husband, saying he is the right person to become Mombasa’s second governor.

Kache said Kingi clearly understands devolution and governance matters as well as gender inclusivity issues.

Kingi who is vying for the Mombasa governor seat on a Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) political party is to battle it out with ODM candidate and Mvita Member of Parliament Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir, UDA’s Hassan Omar Hassan, among other contestants.
