The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) which earlier settled for Zamzam Mohammed as its Mombasa Woman representative flagbearer has changed its position and conducted primaries for the same.

Zamzam was to be handed over direct nomination earlier on Tuesday this week however, the current Mombasa woman representative Asha Hussein opposed to the party’s move triggering a change of the earlier ODM Party position.

According to sources, Hussein lacked grounds to protect the ODM strength within Mombasa County saying the leader performed dismally for the party and for the community as well during her reign.

In todays party primaries for the Woman representative post, Zamzam is sending her second shot for the position after she was floored by Hussein in 2017 general election.

“I promise to deliver as per expectations of the Mombasa County residents and at no point will I fail my political party,” she earlier said.

Zamzam had earlier joined Businessman cum politician Suleiman Shahbal, however, she later made a U-turn and vowed to stick to ODM.

She has been a strong supporter of Mvita Member of Parliament Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir’s Mombasa gubernatorial candidature.

The ODM Party handed over direct nomination certificates to its candidates on Tuesday in Mombasa, in a brief function that was graced by ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The ODM also settled for Mvita MP Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir for the Mombasa Gubernatorial seat dropping Businessman Suleiman Shahbal, it also handed direct nominations to six Parliamentary aspirants in all the Mombasa County Constituencies.

Mombasa Senator Mohammed Faki was also handed direct nomination for the same position and will battle it out with among them his 2017 strong opponent Hamis Mwaguya of United Democratic Alliance UDA.

The party only conducted nominations for the MCA aspirants in the 30 Mombasa wards.

However, some contestants protested malpractices and favouritism during the entire exercise.

In Today’s Woman representative nominations, Hussein is facing off with Zamzam Mohammed for the ODM ticket in Mombasa County.
