ODM grassroots leaders from Mombasa County are calling the Party leader former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to ensure no aspirants will be favoured during the party’s primaries.

Led by Mikindani Member of County Assembly (MCA) Juma Renson Thoya who also doubles as ODM Jomvu sub-county Chairperson alleged fear of a hatched plan to give some influential candidates direct ODM tickets.

Thoya called upon the Mombasa ODM secretariat office to make sure all grassroots nominations are free and fair that will accommodate all ODM aspirants.

The MCA urged the ODM party to give the certificates by merit to the candidates who win party nominations if they want the party to maintain its status quo in Mombasa County.

The MCA was addressing residents of Ganahola in Mikindani informal settlement during a voter registration sensitisation drive.

Thoya said if the grassroots elections are not free and fair, some ODM royalists might be forced to decamp from the party.

Addressing the same forum, woman political activist and Mombasa county Woman representative aspirant, Zamzam Mohamed advised Raila to consider retaining the active grass-root leaders who want to be ejected out of politics by a plan being hatched to give out direct ODM tickets to some influential aspirants.

Zamzam said a direct nomination plan might cause a fall-out that could cost the ODM party in the 2022 general elections.
