Mombasa based investor cum politician Suleiman Shahbal has picked Selina Maitha as his running mate in preparedness for the August, 9, Mombasa gubernatorial race.
Maitha, 45 is the Sister to former Local government and also Tourism Minister the late Karisa Maitha.
Maitha died in 2004 while on an official tour in Frankfurt, Germany.
Shahbal termed Selina Maitha as a determined and hardworking woman who has served the National government in various capacities and who returned home to serve Mombasa residents.
While unveiling Maitha in a colourful ceremony at Majaoni in Kisauni Sub County on Thursday, Shahbal said the decision was arrived at after in-depth and lengthy deliberations with Mombasa residents, community leaders, elders and women.
He revealed that Maitha is qualified to unite with him in the battle for Mombasa’s top seat.
The Mombasa Gubernatorial aspirant further noted that the union means nothing less than delivering services to Mombasa residents indiscriminately.
“I never picked Selina just because she is sister to former political leader the late Karisa Maitha, Selina is hardworking, dedicated, selfless and ready to serve Mombasa people,” noted Mr Shahbal.
He further revealed that their goal is to transform Mombasa county and attain the development objectives Mombasa dwellers have been yearning for, for years.
“Our focus remains face-lifting the county’s economy, well-being of our people, creating employment and business opportunities for all and ensure there is total trickle-down style of leadership that will be an all-inclusive,” Shahbal further revealed.
He called on Mombasa residents to walk with the pair in the journey to economically transform the entire Mombasa county.
While accepting the nomination, Maitha said their leadership with Shahbal will be a development oriented.
She said, their agenda is very clear, to transform the lives of Mombasa inhabitants.
“The economy aspect, equality in service delivery, gender parity, basic services among them health and education are just but a fraction of what is in our ‘to do list’, support us and you will never regret voting for us,” reiterated Ms Maitha.
She appealed to Mombasa voters not to be swayed by selfish leaders who lack development agenda geared towards transforming their lives.
“The decision remains with you do you want your lives uplifted through our efforts or you want to live in despair, lets unite and effect the change we all want,” she appealed.
Shahbal is the first gubernatorial aspirant to unveil his running mate with his opponents, Mvita MP Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir, his Kisauni counterpart Ali Mbogo and Mombasa Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi yet to disclose their running mates in the stiff Mombasa Gubernatorial battle.
