Former Mombasa Senator and Gubernatorial hopeful in the August 9, general election Hassan Omar seems to be strategising for the fierce battle ahead.
Recently Omar was spotted having deliberations with a renowned political strategist Major Idris Abdulrahman, a clear indication that Omar is focusing on the Mombasa County top seat.
Major Idris and Ahmed Mohamed were the top political strategists and who handled the entire communication needs for Business cum politician Suleiman Shahbal.
Shahbal, who was vying for the Mombasa Governor’s position later drop out of the race in favour of Mvita MP Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir.
In deliberations that were led by Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance Presidential hopeful and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader Raila Odinga, Shahbal was forced to relinquish his bid and support Nassir.
Though it was evidently seen as a forced move, Raila reiterated that Shahbal stepped down willingly to support Nassir’s Mombasa Gubernatorial bid.
“After lengthy deliberations, Suleiman Shahbal has stepped down from the Mombasa governorship race and will back Nassir so that ODM captures all the Mombasa elective posts,” said Raila.
The move irritated most of Shahbal’s supporters who some openly shed tears castigating Shahbal for dropping out of the Mombasa Gubernatorial race.
They pushed him to go independent and still battle for the Mombasa Governor’s race, but the businessman never accepted or denied the request.
Shahbal is currently in the United States accompanying Raila Odinga as his special economic advisor.
However, Omar seem to tap on Shahbal’s critical assets who face-lifted him to greater heights mobilising strong political base in Mombasa.
Omar who is vying on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket is set to battle it out with ODM’s Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir, Wiper party candidate Mike Mbuvi Sonko, Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) candidate, Dr William Kingi among others.
