Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has been handed the Wiper Party ticket to vie for Mombasa Gubernatorial seat.

He was officially nominated the Wiper’s flag bearer for Mombasa Governors seat by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Thursday in Nairobi.

Kalonzo also disclosed that Sonko will be Deputised by Kisauni Member of Parliament Ali Mbogo.

Mbogo had earlier expressed his interest in the battle but agreed to shelve his ambitions following consensus talks.

Kalonzo reiterated that after wider consultations, Sonko becomes the Wiper candidate for the Mombasa fierce Governor’s race.

Sonko will now face Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Hassan Omar Sarai, Vibrant Democratic Party (VDP) Candidate Hezron Awiti Bollo, Pamoja African Alliance flag bearer and current Mombasa Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi among others.

Sonko decamped from Jubilee to Wiper on March 22, 2022, as part of measures to revive his political career following his impeachment.

Sonko is facing criminal charges including several corruption cases, assault, and terrorist-linked offences, which he has denied.

He decamped from Jubilee on March, 22, and joined Wiper Party.
