The Wiper Party will on Saturday unveil Mike Mbuvi Sonko as its Governor candidate for the Mombasa county seat, an event to be conducted at the Tononoka grounds.

Sonko is in the Mombasa gubernatorial race and has vowed to turn the political tables upside down, exuding hopes that he will succeed the current Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho.

On Thursday, Kalonzo led a campaign tour of the Eastern, covering Mtito Andei, Machakos, Makueni and later headed to Taita Taveta before making an entry in Mombasa on Saturday.

Sonko was handed the Wiper Party ticket to contest for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat where is being deputised by Kisauni Member of Parliament Ali Mbogo.

Sonko has vowed to show his opponents among them Mvita MP Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir dust in the Mombasa gubernatorial race.

The controversial politician who is facing various criminal charges says Mombasa people deserve better leadership.

However, a section of politicians from Mombasa are objecting Sonko’s entrance into Mombasa politics.

Speaking during Eid baraza in Mombasa on Tuesday, the leaders under the Azimio la Umoja -One Kenya alliance in which Wiper party is a member have asked Mombasa residents to reject Sonko.

They said Sonko is unqualified to lead Mombasa county.

“We are not short of leaders, we have our very own politicians who clearly understand the Mombasa county, Sonko is a failure,” noted Likoni MP Mishi.

Mboko fronted Mvita MP Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir as the best and only option for Mombasa residents.

“The development Mvita residents have enjoyed for years is evident, let us all support Nassir as our Mombasa governor,” reiterated Mboko.

Her sentiments have been backed by Kilifi Gubernatorial aspirant Gideon Mung’aro who cautioned Coastal residents against realigning themselves with politicians imposed on them.

“As Coastal leaders we should avoid being used and misused for other people’s political gains,” noted Mung’aro.

The same remarks were shared by Jomvu Member of Parliament Badi Twalib who asked Mombasa residents to reject Sonko.

Sonko is on Friday expected to make a grand entry into Mombasa county accompanied by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

He is also expected to sign an agreement with his running mate Ali Mbogo before being officially endorsed by Wiper party at Tononoka grounds on the same day.

The political trail will later make its way to Kisauni Sub- County for a ‘meet the people’ political tour.
