Ruto cancels Vihiga County campaigns to mourn Retired President Kibaki

Deputy President William Ruto has cancelled his campaign in Vihiga County so as to pay last respect to former President Mwai Kibaki.

Kibaki, the Kenya’s third President died on Friday aged 90.

The four-day tour was to run until Sunday, covering Bungoma, Busia and Kakamega.

Speaking during the Kakamega County Economic Forum at the Musingu High School grounds, on Friday, Ruto said Kenya Kwanza cannot continue with the planned programme while the nation is mourning a dedicated icon, Retired President Mwai Kibaki.

“We pay tribute to President Kibaki. A leader who distinguished himself with a great legacy,” Ruto said as he broke the meeting for a moment of silence to mourn the retired president.

The Deputy President said the late Kibaki has been a great inspiration to the Kenya Kwanza team especially on his strong focus on the country’s economy.

He reiterated that Kenya Kwanza will now postpone its meetings in the region to mourn the late 3rd President of Kenya.

Kenya Kwanza had slated a series of political rallies in Butula in Busia, Luanda in Vihiga and Ashisiru in Kakamega on Friday.
