Six people have died and eight others injured after a 14-seater matatu collided with a lorry near Kenya Forestry services offices at Ndudori area on the Nakuru-Nyahururu Road.
It is reported that the matatu belonging to 3NTO Sacco was ferrying passengers from Dundori and was headed to Nakuru town when the accident happened.
Acoording to reports from witnesses, the matatu hit the side of the oncoming trailer as both negotiated a sharp bend from opposite directions.
As the two vehicles were moving past each other, the lorry hit the matatu on the driver’s side causing it to veer off the road.
Confirming the accident, Mirangine Deputy County Commissioner Omar Ali noted that County ambulances responded in good time and helped in rushing the injured to Nakuru Level Five Hospitals for treatment while the bodies were moved to the mortuary at the same health facility.
Fatalities resulting from road accidents have been a major point of concern for Kenya with thousands perishing while travelling.
The Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet confirmed that in 2018 alone, 3,156 people perished due to road carnage.
