Husband to the slain 5,000 metre world record holder Agnes Tirop, has been arrested.
Ibrahim Rotich was arrested at Changamwe area in Mombasa on Thursday night.
According to the officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation DCI, Rotich was on his way to a neighbouring country trying to evade arrest.
Earlier, according to police, Rotich’s car was involved in an accident at Mlolongo area along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
“However, police pursued him and nabbed him at Changamwe in Mombasa,” read part of the police report.
He will be detained at the DCI headquarters in Nairobi as police carry on with investigations.
Rotich is the prime suspect in the murder of Agnes Tirop who her lifeless body was found in her house at Iten.
The body had several wounds on the stomach, an evidence that she was stabbed by the husband who vanished immediately after the incident.
Police have been trailing Rotich since Wednesday morning.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto led Kenyans in mourning Tirop.
The Athletics Kenya AK has since halted all its activities for two weeks in honour of the fallen 25 year old athlete, Agnes’s Tirop.
