Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has been acquitted of all the assault charges leveled against him.
Voi Senior resident magistrate Frederick Nyakundi said the complainant who is Coast regional Police Commander Rashi Yakub was unwilling to continue with the case.
On Tuesday, the Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Hajj filed an application to drop all the assault charges against Sonko saying Mr. Yakub was no longer interested in pursuing the matter in court.
Sonko allegedly kicked Mr. Yakub on the thigh on December 6, 2019 at Ikanga airstrip in Voi while resisting arrest.
A total of 6 witnesses had been lined up to testify against Sonko.
However, on Tuesday an application was filed in court where the complainant wished to drop the charges.
On Wednesday, Voi Senior resident Magistrate Frederick Nyakundi dropped the assault charges against Sonko.
However the governor will continue facing 19 corruption charges that involves embezzlement of sh. 357 million in dubious tenders issued in Nairobi county as well as abuse of office.
