Nyali wins a plaque in the 2022 Inaugural Patron’s Cup at Muthaiga

Nyali Golf and Country Club team displayed a sterling performance to clinch a title at the 2022 Inaugural Patron’s Cup Golf Tournament that ended at the Par 71 Muthaiga Golf Course in Nairobi County on Sunday afternoon.

The team comprising among others Adel Balala, Omar Lewa, Hassan kalamu Choyo, John Timbe, William Odeck, Dickson Barassa, Taib Abdalla, Zayan Din and long-hitting George Munyao led by the Club Chairman Akhram Sheikh, Immediate Chairman Taib Bajaber and Captain Zafir Din brought a combined total of 93.5 points to win a Plaque amid celebrations from supporters from home.

Choyo, Timbe, Odeck, and Barassa used the match as a yardstick in preparation for the Kenya Amateur Strokes play Championship that kicks off at Vipingo Ridge Golf Course in Kilifi County from Thursday,20th to Sunday,23 rd October 2022.

The four have been receiving mental coaching and support since August 2021 from a German-based Sports Coaching Agency “Lotusglobal” and the non-profit organization “Universal Lighthouse” through its Chief Executive Officers and Founders, the international High-Sports Performance and Business Consultant and renowned Mental Coach Bernard Payet and Diploma Sports Scientist, UEFA-A-Licensed Football Coach and Physical, Technical and Nutritional Coach Thomas Mooser.

In other Categories hosts, the Muthaiga Golf Club team garnered a total of 74.5 points to win a trophy while Sigona Golf Club with a combined total of 66.5 points and the Golf Park Team a total of 59 points were the shield Bowl Trophies winners respectively.

The tournament kicked off on Friday with an afternoon Foursome Matchplay. On Saturday morning 4Ball Better Ball ( 4BBB) was played followed by another Foursomes Matchplay in the afternoon before the final day on Sunday where they played individual Singles Matchplay.

This three days Inaugural Patron’s Cup event sponsored by G4s and Krups Coffee is an Inter-Club competition event played under Kenya Golf Union (KGU) that attracted 13 Golf Clubs from across the Country.

The Clubs included Royal Nairobi Golf Club, Kenya Railways Golf club, Eldoret Golf Club, Karen Country Club, Vet lab Sports Club, Team Coast, Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club, Limuru Country Club, Sigona Golf Club, Nyali Golf and country club, Thika Sports Club, Golf Park Golf Club and hosts Muthaiga Golf Club.

Muthaiga Golf Club Chairman Ronal Meru said the Club being the Home of Golf and housing the Kenya Golf Union, chose to immortalize H.E. Kibaki’s legacy by organizing a three (3) day interclub golf tournament dubbed “The Patron’s Cup” which is expected to be an annual event under the auspices of the Kenya Golf Union.

He said former Late President Mwai Kibaki, the third president of the Republic of Kenya, who for many years served as the Patron of the Kenya Golf Union, and an ardent golfer played a very critical role in the development of golf.

Meru noted that during Kibaki’s stewardship, the game of golf flourished in the country as more golf courses sprung up and helped to demystify the sport as being only for the rich while younger golfers are now enjoying this sport.

“We take this opportunity to thank The Kibaki Family, and the Kenya Golf Union, for their contribution to supporting this event in terms of resources and personnel. Equally, we acknowledge our magnanimous partners, G4S, Mansions Real Estate and Hue Marketing/ Krupus Coffee who have walked with us in making the successful tourney,” said Meru.

On behalf Kibaki family, Judy Kibaki thanked Muthaiga Golf Club and the Kenya Golf Union for organizing such a fantastic event.

“We as the Kibaki family would like to have this event yearly and we will ensure that the teams are well sponsored’ Said Judy.

According to Club records, Moses Tanui, a former marathoner donated his precious trophy that he won in 1996 in France The Trophy will be a patron’s cup floating trophy that will be housed in Muthaiga until next year’s event.
