Kenya’s Sarah Achieng is the new Commonwealth light-welterweight champion.
She outsmarted Malawi’s Anisha Basheel enroute to a unanimous points victory in an exciting 10-round thriller before a highly appreciative crowd.
The Kenyan was in the driver’s seat from the first to the 9th round. It’s only in the 10th Anisha made a late rally in a bid to KO Achieng but she held her own up to the final bell.
Achieng’s teammates at Boxgirls Kenya burst in song and dance celebrating the sweet and deserved victory.
Kenya’s three judges scored the fight as follows : Francis Olando 100-90, Daniel Otieno 98-92 and Martin Ndaria 100-90.
