Wundanyi Member of Parliament Damson Mwashako has appealed to the government to fully include Taita Taveta County youth in Wild life jobs.
Mwashako said despite 60 percent of Taita Taveta land being national game reserve, youth in the area have been sidelined.
According to Mr. Mwashako, it is shameful for the government to only give Taita Taveta Community five percent of the total employment opportunities ya the Tourism and Wildlife Ministry.
Speaking in his Wundanyi Constituency, Mwashako said the County deserves anything above 50 per of the employment opportunities especially at Tsavo East and Tsavo West National parks.
“Am aware that there will be a recruitment exercise of 1,000 game rangers soon, as Taita Taveta County political leaders we are closely following on this issue,” said Mr. Mwashako.
The legislature said the County has many qualified youth who can take many roles in the biggest national park countrywide.
“We have become beggars while we have the largest game reserve in our County, we need to benefit from our resources,” noted the Law maker.
Mwashako has urged the government to always consider Taita Taveta Community whenever employing staff to mann the national asset.
He said by fully involving the local community in managing the national reserve, the government will be enhancing devolution.
He called on other political leaders in the county to ensure the county gets its fair share of the revenues from both Tsavo West and East National reserves.
Recently Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja while appearing before the Senate drummed for a share of revenue from the two largest game reserves, Tsavo East and Tsavo West.
