The government has been forced to shut transport activities at the Miritini-Mwache-Mombasa road after the road started eroding.
The Kenya National Highways Authority -KeNHA suspended the transport activities for 48 hours to pave way for engineering inspection at the modern road famously known as SGR.
According to KeNHA Director General Engineer Peter Mundinia, some parts of the road have been eroding following strong moisture.
In a statement to newsrooms, Mundinia said the closure of the road will enhance engineering inspection and to enable the authority assess the damage and implemented rehabilitation measures.
The road was launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017 as one of his mega project he used to campaign for his re election.
“Motorists are advised to use the Miritini-Kwa-Jomvu-Mombasa road until the engineering inspection work is completed,” said Mr. Mundinia.
