Detectives are detaining two suspects linked to the murder of a Dutch national Herman Rouwenhourst at Shanzu in Mombasa County on June, 4, 2021.

In a statement to newsrooms on Sunday, the detectives said the suspects, Timothy Omondi Ngoe famously known as Rashid, 22 and his accomplice Mary Nekesa Ambani aged 33 were nabbed at a house in Kiembeni on Sunday morning.

The two have openly admitted that they were contracted to execute Herman by the wife Riziki Cherono.

Police reports indicated that Rashid and Nekesa held a meeting with Cherono on May, 10, 2021 and plan the most foul murder.

“The meeting was later followed by a rehearsal and location scouting where in fact Omondi went to the Upscale Rocco apartment in Shanzu earlier to familiarise himself with the residence before the exact day of the ‘action’,” said DCI officials.

The detectives further revealed that Herman who together with Cherono had two children aged 14 and 12 years had at one point  revealed to the wife his intentions to divorce her following unending wrangles.

“Cherono did not take lightly the intentions and planned the murder and actually hired Omondi, Nekesa and others to execute her husband,” revealed the police.

Herman owned a chain of investments including properties and entertainment clubs both in Mombasa and Kilifi Counties.

However, on June, 4 this year, together with his security guard Evans Bokoro, they were murdered in cold blood.

Herman’s lifeless body was found lying on his bed with his legs, hands and mouth tied up with ropes, the body had multiple injuries.

His security guard was also murdered under the same circumstances.

The hired gang members some of whom are still on the loose later made away with 3 million shillings.

Among the gang members were Nekesa who is a former manager to one of the hotels owned by the late Rouwenhourst.

“In a bid to cover up, Cherono staged her own kidnapping and she alerted police that she was in great danger,” added the police report.

On reaching at the location near Serena hotel in Shanzu, Mombasa, Cherono was found inside her Probox car with her hands tied up on the staring, while crying.

However, Detectives have since established that the kidnap was purely stage managed and that she choreographed the whole process.

Rashid later bought a piece of land at Kiembeni within Kisauni Sub county and built a 4 bedroomed house at 1.5 million shillings and furnished it with households worth half a million shillings.

Detectives nabbed the two at the house where an ammunition, handcuffs and several simcards were recovered.

The two will be arraigned in court on Monday.
