Two people died while one is nursing serious injuries at the Coast general referral hospital Intensive Care Unit after a lorry rammed into a house at Jomvu in Mombasa.
A woman died on the spot while her 2 year old child succumbed to injuries Wednesday morning while receiving urgent treatment at the Coast general hospital ICU.
Jomvu OCPD James Mutua said the lorry which was transporting sand development mechanical problems and failing breaks and veered off the road ramming into a residential house at Ng’ombeni area in Jomvu on Tuesday.
The family was asleep during the morning accident.
“The accident happened at around 8 am Tuesday morning, we rushed the father and the child to the hospital but the woman died on the spot,” revealed Mutua.
He said investigations are still ongoing.
“We have in our custody the driver of the lorry while the vehicle is being detained at Jomvu administration police camp,” revealed Mr. Mutua.
He said police wants to establish if indeed the lorry experienced failed breaks, was its overloaded or it was a matter of reckless driving.
The bodies of the mother and the child are lying at the Coast general referral hospital morgue.
