A mother and her daughter died after a boat they were traveling in capsized at Mwakirunge river in Kisauni, Mombasa.
The passenger boat was crossing the Mwakirunge river connecting to Marimani area before it capsized.
Kisauni Police Boss Julius Kiragu said the heavy downpour and strong tides experienced in the river on Friday afternoon may have caused the incident.
One person was rescued and such operation for the fourth passenger is still underway.
Mombasa County disaster response team, divers from the Kenya Red Cross Society and the Kenya Ports Authority are conducting the rescue operations.
Kiragu said only the mother and her baby bodies were retrieved from the river and were taken to the Coast general referral hospital morgue.
He cautioned locals to be vigilant when using such mean of transport especially during the rainy season.
This comes barely a day after the government revealed that a total of 29 people have died in the past few weeks following heavy rains I various parts of the country.
