Police in Changamwe are detaining two suspects alleged to have been defiling two minors for unknown period of time at Changamwe in Mombasa.
Changamwe Police Boss Daudi Loronyokwe revealed that police are detaining the two suspects nabbed last evening at Migadini area where they have been defiling the 9 and 10 year old primary school girls.
He revealed that one of the girl aged 9 is an orphan and they have been taking advantage of her desperation.
He also revealed that the two Mutinda Mutua and Joshua Challo Musyoki will be arraigned in court after police accomplish their investigations
“The medical report is ready and indeed the two children have been undergoing continuous defilement under the hands of the two men,” revealed Daudi.
The area chief Isaac Makau noted that the administration got the information from community leaders.
“Anyone involved in intimacy with a minor should face the law, please go seek sexual satisfaction from your agemates,” noted the Administration officer.
Gender activists concerned
Gender and children right activist Salma Hemed expressed concerns over the increased rape and defilement cases in Changamwe and the entire Mombasa County.
The Human rights lobby Haki Africa Deputy Executive director said it is from such cases that Mombasa recorded at least 8,034 early pregnancy cases in 2018.
She appealed to the community to fight the issue and ensure children are protected from such social vices.
“We have been protesting the increase in sexual violences, rape cases, gender based violence all targeting women and children, however we feel the security agents are not doing enough to salvage the situation,” said Hemed.
She called for more efforts in taming sexual violence against Women and children in the county.
