Rescue operations are underway to save two high school students who drowned in the Indian ocean at Mpeketoni in Lamu county on Sunday.
The two, a form four and form two students went for swimming on Sunday afternoon.
One of the boys could not manage the heavy tides and when his colleague tried to rescue him they both drowned.
Mpeketoni location Chief Phil Githinji said multi-agency rescue operation has been ongoing to rescue the two.
“The operation involves divers from the Kenya Red Cross Society Lamu county branch, the Kenya Maritime Authority, the Kenya navy and fishermen within Mpeketoni area.
Githinji warned parents against laxity and leaving their children to go to the Indian ocean despite several warnings form the weather department.
Mr Githinji exuded hopes that the two boys will be found alive.
