Embattled Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru faced a blow after court declined to nullify her impeachment.
The governor is also is being sought by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission -EACC over graft allegations.
Just a day after Waiguru was ousted by the Kirinyaga county assembly members, the EACC announced that it is pursuing her on corruption allegations levelled against her by the Assembly members.
Waiguru is said to have embezzled 10.6 million shillings she allocated herself as travel allowances.
According to the MCA’s despite being paid the whole amount by the Kirinyaga County government, Waiguru did not travel.
She is also accused of allocating herself and other companies allied to her various tenders, contravening the laws.
“We cannot allow the county government to embezzle funds by obeying to the Governor’s order,” said the mover of the ouster motion Kinyua Wangui.
The Kirinyaga MCA’s on Tuesday handed over the impeachment documents to Senate speaker Ken Lusaka.
Lusaka called on a special sitting on Thursday afternoon to discuss the impeachment.
“Both Waiguru and Kirinyaga County assembly members will be given time to address their concerns, grievances and their defense to the Senate,” said Mr. Lusaka.
Waiguru has since rubbished her impeachment saying the matter was before court and she had obtained court order barring the MCA’s from discussing the matter.
