Wundanyi Member of Parliament Danson Mwashaco has appealed to Taita Taveta political leaders to initiate serious debate on how they solve the unemployment issue within their county.
Mwashaco said though unemployment is a nationwide problem, leaders in the county have a huge responsibility to tackle the problem.
Speaking in his Wundanyi Constituency the Legislature said youth in the county should not be left on their own but fully assisted to earn a living.
Mwashaco said the county needed an investment plan and serious development strategy that will absorb many youths.
“We were promised at least a half a million jobs annually by Jubilee government, where are they?” posed the Lawmaker.
He said the unemployment among Taita Taveta county youth should be the top dialogue from 2020 and efforts implemented to attain the objective.
“The Building Bridges Initiative report only touches the issue in a single paragraph that there will a 7 year tax holiday for starters in business, however, not all youth will be in business,” noted Mr. Mwashaco.
He said despite many youth having the experience and required qualifications for various fields, they cannot all be absorbed in the Taita Taveta county government.
Mwashaco’s remarks come as efforts by the county leaders to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta over the Export Processing Zone investment plan in the county are underway.
The efforts are spearheaded by Taita Taveta county Governor Granton Samboja.
