Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho has warned that Old town residents will be subjected to a forced Covid-19 test.
The governor said Old town residents are playing hide and seek games with the health officials conducting the exercise in the area.
According to Joho, the residents will be tested for the Coronavirus disease whether they like it or not as a move to protect them from the deadly virus.
“You all know me and I don’t swallow my words, you will be tested,” reiterated Joho.
The Mombasa County Chief breathed fire while addressing locals in Old town on Saturday, saying locals in the have totally ignored all the health and safety rules provided by the county health department in a bid to prevent the disease.
“We have recorded over 34 Coronavirus positive cases in Old town, 6 of them have so far lost their lives and you still ignore the mass testing exercise?” posed Joho.
Joho insisted that if locals will not voluntarily go for the mass testing they will be followed right into their homes and get the test whether willingly or not.
“Stop dancing with death, we are not begging you to go for the test, you must get it or it is forced on you,” said an evident angry Joho.
He has criticised those discouraging locals to get examined for Coronavirus warning of severe actions against all those who will ignore the exercise.
Joho who was accompanied by Mvita Legislature Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, Mombasa County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo, the County Chief health Officer Dr. Khadija Shikelly among other government officials said if the locals ignore the exercise more stringent measures will taken against them.
He urged locals to support the exercise and voluntarily get tested and as well observe social distancing, wearing on face masks and stay at home .
Old town area within Mombasa Island is the current Coronavirus epicenter according to statistics from the National government.
