Anti-Coronavirus programs implemented by youth in Mombasa have positively impacted the community in Nyali constituency.
The programs implemented by Kadzandani Creative Youth Organisation aims at equipping the communities within the constituency with skills and ways of fighting the deadly virus.
Kadzandani Creative Youth Organisation Director Omar Chai said the efforts are triggered by the fact that most of locals in the interior areas of Kadzandani are living in poverty and cannot access any of the recommended Personal Protective Equipment-PPEs.
“At Morotto slums within Bombolulu estate for example, locals are living in acute poverty, where do you expect them to buy face masks at 50 shillings each?” posed Mr. Chai.
He said through the ‘Komesha Corona’ (stop Coronavirus) program being implemented in the entire Kadzandani area, locals have benefited from face masks, soaps and food from the youth group.
“This is our membership contributions and we appeal for support from other well-wishers, the county government and the national government so that we extend our reach,” he said.
Chai said apart from giving them the PPE’s the youth are also educating the community on how to prevent the spread of the disease.
He said they have so far distributed face masks and soaps to locals in Morotto slums, KD and Mkomani areas within Nyali constituency.
Chai appealed to other stakeholders to join hands in ensuring locals abide by the new normal in a bid to avert further spread of Coronavirus.
