Malindi Member of parliament Aisha Jumwa and her Msambweni counterpart Suleiman Dori were on Thursday forced to swallow a humble pie as Orange Democratic Movement ODM expunged them from the Political party.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said that the two went against the party rules and regulations and should no longer be members.

The two were also dewhipped from all the parliamentary committees with immediate effect

The two have openly drummed support for Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.

However, Jumwa cited witch-hunting saying that the two MP’s were working in the spirit of the ‘Handshake’ between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM party leader Raila Odinga.

Jumwa while dressing the press was apologetic unlike last year when she threatened ODM to expunge her from the party.

“We are not the only Members of parliament supporting the current government even our Party leader Raila Odinga is working closely with President Uhuru Kenyatta because of the ‘Handshake’ spirit,” she said.

On his part, Msambweni legislature Suleiman Dori said he was still a bona fide member of ODM as he has invested his resources in running the party.

“We are still in ODM and no one can expunge us from the party, we have not done anything wrong,” he said.

However, Mr. Sifuna said that working in the spirit of ‘Handshake’ does not give them the right to violate the party rules and regulations.

“They have the right to seek redress but the ODM National Executive Council NEC adopted the committee’s recommendations which are awaiting ratification,” he noted.

Among those expunged together with Jumwa and Dori are five members of Homa bay County assembly Dan were, Evans Marieba, Julius Odhiambo, Geoffrey Anyango, Paul Ongoro and Busia County MCA Immaculate Adhiambo.
