Mombasa County assembly on Tuesday impeached the County executive member in charge of transport Tawfiq Balala.
Balala has been at the centre of sh. 3.7 billion shillings, money that cannot be accounted for, for the 2017/2018 financial year.
The motion was tabled by Jomvu kuu Ward representative Athman Shebe on 8th March this year.
Shebe in his motion raised serious concerns over abuse of office and mismanagement of the County resources allocated for County infrastructure development projects among them construction of roads, street lights among other projects.
Shebe said that the County has been experiencing very minimal development projects at the expense of few individuals running the county as private property.
“One of my concerns as a member of this house is that most of the revenue collected especially parking fee end up in individual’s pockets at the expense of the county development,” noted Mr. Shebe in his previous arguments.
On Tuesday, almost all the MCA’s adopted the motion prompting the County Assembly speaker Kharub Khatri to issue 7 days for a special committee to analyse and investigate the allegations further on the issues raised.
The assembly which was packed to the brim experienced chaos with supporters of Mr. Balala throwing insults at the MCA’s.
Balala was ordered twice to appear before the house to explain the where about of a whopping sh. 3.7 billion shillings but never honored the summon.
Meanwhile, Mombasa activists are collecting 200, 000 signatures to dissolve the County assembly.
Let by Jubilee activist Mgandi Kalinga they said that the assembly has completely failed in its mandate and should be dissolved.
