The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party has embarked on a door-to-door campaign to woo voters in the Msambweni parliamentary seat ahead of the December, 15 by-election.
Campaigns for the Msambweni seat that fell vacant following the death of area MP Suleiman Dori in March, 2020 has gathered momentum with main contenders resorting to door-to-door drive due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Dori, a two-term MP was a member of the ODM party.
Msambweni is one of the four constituencies in Kwale county, others being Lunga-Lunga, Matuga and Kinango.
It has 69,377 registered voters spread in the four wards of Ramisi, Kinondo, Bongwe-Gombato and Ukunda.
Several candidates are contesting in the by-election to replace the late Dori among them former Bongwe-Gombato MCA Omar Boga (ODM), Feisal Abdallah (Independent), Khamis Mwakaonje (United Green Movement) Party and Shee Abdulrahman (Wiper Democratic Movement) party.
ODM Kwale branch Chairman Hassan Mwanyoha is leading from the front seeking votes for the party’s flag bearer Omar Boga for the by-election.
Mwanyoha a former Matuga MP said the party has hit the campaign trail in a bid to retain the seat.
“As ODM party we have kicked off our campaigns in earnest but due to the Covid-19 restrictions we have now shifted our focus on door-to-door campaigns” said Mwanyoha at Madongoni area in Msambweni.
Mwanyoha said the seat rightfully belongs to ODM and that aspirants on other political parties and independent candidates should brace themselves for a bruising political battle.
He said the party would soon launch targeted intensive campaign focusing mainly on youth and women voters whom he said are the majority.
Salim Shikely a local ODM official said residents in Msambweni constituency are fully behind the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) championed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM Party leader Raila Odinga.
Shikely said the BBI process will in the long run lead to a more cohesive, equal and progressive society that is the desire of every Kenyan.
He says the ODM nominee’s main agenda in seeking to represent the constituency is in pursuit of a fair, just and equitable society.
Shikely urged the residents to vote in Boga noting that he enjoys the blessings of ODM and Jubilee parties and is fully behind the BBI process which seeks a peaceful, progressive and united country.
