Muindi & Meringor emerge victorious in the Safaricom-Madoka Half Marathon.

Daniel Muindi and Delvin Relin Meringor are the new champions of the 13th edition of the Safaricom-Madoka Half Marathon held at Ngerenyi, Taita Taveta County.

Muindi emerged the winner in the men’s 21km race after clocking 1:06.04 to beat Stephen Mwendwa and George Njoroge who finished second and third in a time of 1:06.56 and 1:06:67 respectively.

Addressing media after the race, Muindi affirmed that he is not done yet as he is planning to embark on a serious training in order to participate in the upcoming Bucaramanga Half Marathon scheduled for 28th October 2018 in Colombia.

 

In the women’s 21Km, Delvin Relin Meringor who participated in the race for the first time crossed the finish line at 1.16.10 ahead of Lydia Njeri who came in second at 1.18.07 followed closely by Esther Chesang at 1.19.46.

Others who booked places in the men’s 10Km race include James Mwadime who clinched the title in a record time of 32:38:52 followed closely by Gift Bahati in a time of 32:41:26 and Mwamburi Jackson finishing third in a time of 32:49: 67.

Lucy Mwende won the 10KM women’s category finishing at 50:46:83 followed by Ann Ali at 50:49:96 and Monica Mwende at 51:20:59.

 

This year’s race attracted over 1500 athletes both local and International setting standards to the organizers who are looking forward to a bigger and better platform for the untapped raw talents that lies within the borders.

Daniel Muindi and Delvin Meringor walked away with a cash prize of Ksh. 500,000 each while the first and second runners-up in both categories pocketed Ksh. 250,000 and Ksh. 100,000 respectively.
