Old town youth FC crowned 2018 ‘Pamba roho’ football tournament winners

Old town youth FC on Sunday clinched the ‘Pamba roho’ cup tournament fully sponsored by Mvita Community Development Organisation-MV-CODE Patron Taib Abdulrahman.

Old town youth FC floored Kibokoni All Stars in the tough match that forced the two teams to square it out in penalties.

Old town youth FC scored 4 goals against Kibokoni All Stars 3 goals.

Port Killang FC clinched position three in the one and a half month long soccer tournament dubbed ‘Pamba roho’ that was mainly to create awareness on drug use and HIV among the youth within Mvita constituency.

Taib who is also the Executive director Reachout Centre Trust, an anti-drug lobby based at the Coast said that ‘Pamba roho’ football tournament involved both under and above 18 years old youth with an aim of dissuading them from indulging in drug use and irresponsible sexual behaviors.

Old town youth FC bagged Sh. 30,000, a trophy and medals for each player while Kibokoni All Stars bagged Sh. 20,000, a trophy and medals. Port Killang FC received Sh. 10,000 and a trophy.

“The reception was beyond our expectations, a total of 16 teams participated and we are planning to increase the number in 2019,” noted Taib.

He said that the youth have become ambassadors of change in the society and have shown the zeal to work with MV-CODE, Reachout Centre Trust among other stakeholders in the fight against drug use and HIV in Mombasa.

“Let’s all work closely in eradicating drug use among the youth, the young generation is being extricated by the negative impact of drug use,” he said.

During the finals, Mohammed Abdallah from Kibokoni All Stars was crowned the best goal keeper, Hussein Machinga also of Kibokoni All Stars top scorer and Abdulshakur Mohammed of Port Killang crowned the best player of the ‘Pamba roho’ soccer tournament that was themed ‘Soccer bila stimu’ (Sports not drugs).
